Product Description
Panasonic is a diverse Japanese brand based which manufactures a broad range of consumer electronics and home appliance devices. If you are looking for a new residential microwave, you should consider the NN-SD688S. The Panasonic unit is a 1300 watt family sized unit offers a full 1.2 cubic feet of storage. The footprint on the microwave allows you to place it directly on your kitchen countertop.
This model is one of the larger ones in the Panasonic family, compared to the MWM6600RW, which has only .6 cubic feet of storage. Panasonic microwaves offer a proprietary feature to help food taste great when you are using microwaves. Panasonic owns the rights to this technology, known as the Panasonic Inverter Technology. Inverter technology allows the microwave to use a lower amount of power. The NNSD-688S helps keep your food cooked evenly so that you can avoid hot spots and cold spots. This is extremely helpful for when you are heating dense foods such as chicken potpie in the microwave. The microwave also offers a feature that helps keep food warm in the microwave, until you are ready to serve it. If you need a microwave that can be used for keeping stews and gravy at a constant temperature, the NNSD-688S has a keep warm mode.
Panasonic makes great microwaves for defrosting frozen food as well. One the features they invented is known as the Turbo defrost. The NNSD-688S works by using the electronic circuitry to determine how to defrost food, without actually cooking it. The NN-SD688S also a sensor and electronic circuitry that make can help you reheat food at a consistent temperature. Panasonic microwaves work well for reheating foods such as mashed potatoes.
Features Panasonic Prestige NN-SD688S Microwave:
• 1300 watt power input • 1.2 ft internal storage, with a 13.5” turntable • 10 power levels, with a sensor cook feature for 9 food types • Timer based controls (i.e. start delay, popcorn button, quick start) • Exterior Dimensions: 11-7/8 H X 20 3/8 L X 16 X W, 26.0 lbs • Interior Dimensions 8 7/8 H X 14 ¾ H X 15 3/16 W • Power: standard 120 volt AC, 12.7 amp • 1 year limited warranty (you can also purchase an extended warranty from Panasonic for 1 or 2 years)
Well, rarely does the majority of customers agree as much as they do when it comes to the Panasonic NN-SD688S. This model got great reviews across the board. But one thing was mentioned by a few buyers which needs to be mentioned here: the display, actually, the angle of the display. It was said that you had to bend over to read, which of course is not optimal. However, others reported that they did not experience this issue at all.
The unit has a dial on the front, which helps you navigate through the menu options. An easy to read green LED display gives you information such as the remaining amount of cooking time. This is a multi language display, which can be changed from English, Spanish, or French. The Panasonic microwave comes in a stainless steel finish on the front door, which looks wonderful in contemporary kitchens. The NN-SD688S model also is a good option if your kitchen does not come with a built in microwave unit. You can also purchase trim kits if you want the built in look as well.
If you want to maximize the lifespan of the unit, you may want to consider the 2 year customer care option. The extended warranty plan will assist you in case you ever have electrical or mechanical issues, by allowing you to have the unit serviced by an authorized Panasonic service technician.
As for the display; it’s not optimal, but certainly not as bad as described by some buyers. Yes, you may have to step back to read it but that’s true for practically all microwaves. In sum: in our opinion a must-buy. A high performance microwave in a modern-contemporary look. The price is absolutely top, you’ll get plenty of bang for your buck.
